Our history
Leveraging a 60+ year history of supporting staff and organisational wellbeing, Vitae continues to lead with innovative, effective workplace wellbeing and employee assistance services.
Early work at Manapouri
Vitae’s story began in 1965 during the Manapouri Power Project, when support was first offered to workers by Reverand Owen Kitchingman.
Development of ITIM
The work started by Rev. Kitchingman later grew into the Inter‑church Trade & Industry Mission (ITIM), starting in 1969 in Christchurch and 1970 in Auckland and Wellington, with 5 regional ITIM centres.
Trading as Workplace Support
Centres commenced as Workplace Support – Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Canterbury/Westland and Southern. In 1997, Workplace Support Wellington changed to Workplace Support Central.
New services
1998: Counselling was initiated in 1996 and well established by 1998.
1999: Trauma services to respond to critical incidents were initiated in 1998 and actioned in 1999.
Workplace Support Central rebrand
Workplace Support Central rebranded as Seed in October.
Partnership with Converge
Seed entered/signed MOU with Converge Australia and commenced providing services to their NZ customers in October.
Centre mergers
2008: Workplace Support Northern and Workplace Support Waikato combine to form ITIM North Island – T/A Workplace Support North Island in August.
2010: 1 July, Seed and Workplace Support North Island merged under the ITIM North Island entity.
Vitae brand is born
Seed and Workplace Support North Island merged to provide nationwide coverage for our combined clients. The brand of Vitae, providing a unified trading name, was launched in April 2011.
Vitae app
The Vitae app is launched for iOS and Android.
Remote service options
